1 1 1 1 1 This is the most important piece in the game. If an enemy captures your flag, then you have lost. Flags cannot move.

1 1 1 1 0 This is your army's main killing machine. However, an enemy Spy can kill him if the spy strikes first.

1 1 1 1 0 This is your army's other killing machine. He's pretty tough for an old man.

2 0 1 0 0 Very important pieces because often the game comes down to who has a colonel left.

3 0 1 0 0 Great piece for mopping up enemy mid to low-level pieces. Watch out for the enemy's high ranking officers though!

4 0 2 0 0 A mid-level piece. In Ultimate Lightning, captains can move two spaces at a time, and diagonally.

4 0 2 0 0 A mid-level piece. Good for probing attacks where it may kill a few miners or scouts before being sacrificed.

4 0 2 0 3 Generally weak, but good for hanging around bombs (or impersonating bombs) to kill enemy miners.

5 1 2 2 3 Except in One-Time-Bombs mode and Ultimate Lightning, miners are the only pieces that can destroy bombs.

8 2 4 2 0 The scout can move multiple tiles horizontally or vertically in one turn provided there are no obstacles in its path. In Range-Attack mode, the scout can multi-move and attack in the same turn. In Ultimate Lightning, scouts can remove bombs.

1 1 1 1 0 The spy is the only moving piece that can kill the Marshal, but the spy must attack first. If a Marshal attacks the Spy first, then the spy is killed. In SuperSpy mode, the spy can kill anything except a bomb as long as he attacks.

6 1 2 2 3 Most pieces that attack a bomb will be killed. Usually, the bomb can only be removed from the game by a Miner. Bombs cannot move, except in RPS.
